Feral Cat Trap/Neuter/Release Program

FOMCA has the compassionate solution to feral cat colonies. A grant from PetSmart Charities has allowed Friends to establish a T/N/R Feral Cat program and assist colony caretakers with trapping and transporting.

Feral or Stray?

Feral is not another word for "stray." A stray is a cat who has been abandoned or who has strayed from home and become lost. Stray cats can be re-socialized and adopted. Adult feral cats usually can't be socialized and won't adjust to living indoors with a human family. Rather than attempting to tame one or two feral cats, your time and effort are better spent sterilizing many feral cats to break the cycle of reproduction.

The TNR Solution to Feral Cat Populations

TNR is a proven procedure in which entire colonies of feral cats are humanely trapped, evaluated, vaccinated, and neutered by veterinarians. They are returned to their outdoor environent and provided with food. The breeding stops, annoying behavior of breeding cats stops, and eventually the populations are reduced.

Friends of Madison County has a TNR program and is willing to work with responsible persons who want to manage a colony. To get involved with a TNR program for a feral cat population around your home or place of business, please contact FOMCA, and our Feral Cat specialist will work closely with you.
