Volunteer Form!

SPAY/NEUTER CLINICS: Great opportunity for early birds! Clinics are held bi-weekly. Volunteers assist 2 mornings a month, preparing animals for transport from our office in Marshall to ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance Clinic in Asheville. Wednesday 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and Thursday 7:45 to 9:45 a.m.

WEDNESDAY volunteers prepare animal crates prior to clients' arrival by lining crates with newspaper and towels. Check in clients and pets. Have clients sign consent/admission forms, financial assistance applications, collect payment, crate animals, label crates. Help load crated animals onto shuttle van for transport.

THURSDAY volunteers help unload crated animals upon return from clinic. Assist owners with safely securing their pet when removing from crate. Review post-op instructions with clients and return Humane Alliance records to them. Assist other volunteers with disinfecting crates.

Rabies/Microchip Clinics - Help at a clinic in your neighborhood or join our roving band of volunteers and discover what's on the other side of the mountain! Clinics are held once a month on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in various parts of the county. Shifts are 4 hours, 9:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers hep set up and take down tables and banners, check in clients, fill out rabies certificates, host our information desk, sign up clients for future spay/neuter clinics and act to ensure the safety of the animals and clients at the clinic.

Pet Food Pantry - Pet Pantry food is distributed to qualifying walk-in clients during office hours by office volunteers, but we also need someone to keep our storage area clean and organized (involves moderately heavy lifting of pet food bags) and to communicate with pet food collectors to ensure sufficient quantities of food are on hand. Flexible hours, training provided!

Therapy Dog Activities and Dog Training -  FOMCA sponsors dog training with a professional trainer - Attending Dog Training with Cindy Waselesk will help you get your dog assessed - Your dog could graduate and go on to become a therapy dog! Lots of opportunities for animal-assisted therapy. Visit nursing homes, participate in the library's literacy program, or explore other venues. Contact us to ask about having your dog assessed! Therapy Dogs, Inc, a national organization, works with us to register animals. Once your dog becomes registered, therapy visits can be arranged according to your schedule.

Fundraising/Special Events - Help with exciting annual events. Decorations, entertainment, food & beverage, PR & invitations, silent auction, sponsorship. Help us brainstorm new ideas for our existing donors and new donors!

Publicity & PR - Work with our office manager and our other volunteers to help us promote all types of activities through our website, our new blog, community fliers, brochures, local media and advertising.

Photography/Writing/Blogging - If you enjoy writing and/or taking pictures, we'd love for you to be a guest blogger and also contribute photos and/or articles for press releases, etc.

Grant Writing & Research - Assist with grant research and applications. Must have good writing and organizational skills.

School & Community Education - Work with us to expand our humane education program! Guidance Counselor Lynne Rieger- Leader of the Pack at Madison Middle School! We hope to also work with older children and establish more of a presence in our schools through presentations and programs that encourage student involvement.

Fence Building - Support our Chain Free effort by participating in building fences for qualifying clients. Fence Building requires a site check as the very first step. The owner of the property is responsible for building the fences if they are capable of the job. If not, then physically strong volunteers appreciated, but all welcome! No experience necessary. Will involve a few hours or so on a weekend as clients are scheduled. We would love to have a handyman join us who understands fence building and can lead our teams. A final check is required at the end of about a 3 Week period.

Office Cleaning- Come in for an hour or so once a week--or suggest a schedule that works for you. A little housekeeping goes a long way! We need a little light cleaning in our office area - absolutely NO bathroom cleaning! wink Possibly other light cleaning duties as needed.

Do you want to help out, but can't join in as a volunteer? There are many items we'd love to receive as donations. Check out our wish list!
