“Thank you and the organization so much. I don’t think Gordon would have held on much longer if it weren’t for the help.”
Gordon’s Mom
“Thankfully, the vet said he didn’t think it was his heart or liver which were two of the possibilities so my son and I had to have a serious talk about if it was liver failure having to put him down so he didn’t suffer. But his breathing and heart sounded great. He did an ultrasound and extracted a yellow fluid from his abdomen that was filling his abdomen. He said out of the two things he thought it could be, FIP or a virus, that he was leaning toward virus but he was sending samples of his blood and the fluid to be tested and either one could be treated. Gordon was severely dehydrated so they also put him on an IV for a little bit of time to give him desperately needed fluid. Toward the end of the visit Gordon was getting a little more resistant to all the handling which I said I was happy to see. I didn’t like he was upset but he had moved so little and was just limp that it was giving me hope. We were sent home with 3 syringes of something that stimulates appetite, several with prednisolone, a special food packed with extra nutrients to thin with water so it could be taken into syringes and shot into the corner of his mouth to make him take in the food. They did all of that with a total of $500 and some so I know they were doing everything they could to make it more affordable. My son was sitting there before the bill saying if he had to have him put down he would have to just accept it because he knew how much we were struggling and the interest rate was so high. So when he came back with what the bill would be I told my son “we can make that work. I paid off one of our bills so it would be just like we were and we managed that.” At that point he started to cry. I told him the Lord enabled the organization to have the voucher and my being able to get the credit thing and He would take care of all of us even if Gordon needs some more meds after the results come back from the lab.
Gordon was more vocal by the time we got home so just a little more like himself. He went right to the pet fountain we have and was drinking more water than we’d seen in days. I guess having some of the fluid removed and actually getting a little hydration was making him feel a little better already. I didn’t want to risk wasting any of the special food so I told him to try giving Gordon one of the cans I had bought before and he ate almost half of it. Late last night mixed up the special food how we were told to and fed it to him how we were instructed to make sure he got all the nutrition he needed.”
“I thought you might like to know that the voucher covered almost the entire amount, they were great about keeping the cost lower, and I managed to be approved for a vet care credit card thing that covered the rest of it. The interest rate on it is insane, but whatever I have to do to get Gordon taken care of.”
